Messiah Messenger – July 2015

So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed. (John 8:36)

As we celebrate our nation’s freedom, let us not forget our true freedom found in Christ alone. We invite you to celebrate by sharing in his ministry. We ask you, your family and friends to join us in worship, fellowship, and service as you feel called and able. All you need to know is available on our website, and in this month’s Messenger.

Please find it here: Messenger – July 2015

Thursday, June 25, is the 485 anniversary of the Presentation of the Augsburg Confession. This defense of Lutheran theology and practice attempted to achieve unity amidst disagreement by focusing on the catholicity (universal nature) of our faith. It is considered a seminal work in the history of religious freedom and remains part of our Lutheran confessions, The Book of Concord (meaning unity). You can read the text here:

With recent events in Charleston, our Presiding Bishop has offered a pastoral letter for all ELCA congregations to share. We invite you to please find it attached, read it and reflect. As part of our worship on Sunday, June 28th, we will remember those touched by this tragic incident. Pastor Lou’s letter about Sunday may be found in Sunday’s bulletin and on his personal blog: 2PennyBlog

Vacation Bible School will be here before we know it, August 10-13 (5:30 pm dinner, 6:15- 8:00 pm program). Volunteers are needed as are adventurers for Everest. With the staff transitions at our school, we have particular need for our pre-k/k escorts and leader spots. To volunteer for VBS, please contact our church office or Kristine Florio. There will be a nightly adult Bible study offered (no registration needed for adults – come any day you wish). Registration forms for our younger adventurers (pre-k – 5th grade) is available here:

In July, please don’t forget that we have one service with All Souls Episcopal at 9:30 am to celebrate summer together. Every week will have a special theme and offering. Details are in our newsletter and bulletin.

As you travel and play, please keep the ministry of Messiah Lutheran Church in your prayers and support it as you are able. In your absence, your offerings may be sent to our office at:

Messiah Lutheran Church
8154 Atlee Rd.
Mechanicsville, VA 23111

In the near future, we hope to institute online giving for those interested. As the heart of summer fun begins, we wish you a happy Independence Day and Anniversary of the Augsburg Confession!
