Our most popular event has been put on hold until 2020. Check back with us in August, 2020 to find out more!
We offer food, art & crafts for sale, bake sale, bounce house, kids activities, and more with no admission charge! In the spirit of Francis of Assisi (remembered by the Church on October 4th each year), this is a family and pet friendly event. See our tentative schedule below…
FREE Animal Show – Each year, we seek to offer safe, family friendly, educational shows related to our stewardship of God’s creation. We have had reptiles, parrots, alligators, and even a lynx join us! Stay tuned for our 2020 show announcement. Why? “God made the wild animals of the earth of every kind, and the cattle of every kind, and everything that creeps upon the ground of every kind. And God saw that it was good” (Gen. 1:25). Show time: 11:00 am
Pet Blessing – All of God’s creatures are welcome. (Please properly restrain or crate all pets for their safety and the safety of others.) – 1:00 pm
Pet Adoptions – Hanover Humane Society often will have some of their furry friends (cats and/or dogs) present for you to meet. Help them find their forever home.
Horse Petting Area -Never pet a real horse before? Now is your chance!
Fresh Cooked Barbecue Sale – Bulk purchases available while supplies last.
Arts & Craft Vendors – Contact our office to confirm space availability. The registration form for the next year’s event will be posted below (by August 2020). We make every effort to avoid duplicate or similar items for sale. You will be contacted when your registration form is accepted.
As part of this animal-friendly event, we have welcomed a number of non-profits from our area: Friends of Hanover Dog Parks, Hanover Humane Society, Indian Rivers Humane Society, Virginia Equine Welfare Society, & Parrots of Paradise. Interested in having your favorite animal-friendly non-profit attend for free? Let us know!
God created families too, so we always invite Lutheran Family Services of Virginia to be on hand. They share information about adoption & foster parenting as well as sell crafts created by foster children from our area. (Proceeds benefit their program.) A foster child has even found a home through our event!
Thanks to Virginia’s Positive Hits WPER for assistance with our radio advertising over the years!
Why do we like to support and bless all of God’s creatures? Martin Luther helps explain it in his Commentary of the Gospel According to Luke:
“We are to remember that animals are God’s creation, that He provides for them (Matt. 6), and that they may serve as very fitting images for higher spiritual truths, most especially truths about how the Kingdom of God comes (Luke 15:3-7; John 10). They are not to be treated with cruelty, but received as God’s good gifts over which He has placed us as stewards (Gen. 1:28).”
